Increased discussion about power system reliability has prompted the AEMC Reliability Panel to develop an information resource to inform the conversation.
The Reliability Panel is a panel of energy experts set up under the National Electricity Rules which monitors power system reliability and reports the results annually to the AEMC and participating jurisdictions.
It has published a background paper on current considerations for the reliability standard and a plain-language fact sheet on what the standard means and how it is used. This is an early, first step towards the Panel’s next statutory review of the reliability standard and settings, which must be completed by 2022 at the latest.
“We hope this information resource promotes discussion on the reliability in the national electricity market,” said panel Chair and AEMC Commissioner Charles Popple.
