The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has  decided to to fast track a rule change request  that seeks to  improve engagement with local communities on transmission projects, enhancing social licence.

The rule change will be fast tracked because the AEMC previously consulted on core elements of the rule change request.

The fast track rule making process allows the AEMC to proceed directly to publishing a draft determination after which stakeholders will have further opportunity to provide feedback on the rule change. A draft determination will be published in August 2023.

The rule change request,  submitted by Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate Change and Energy aligns with recommendations made in the Transmission planning and investment review Stage 2 final report. 

We consulted extensively on the issues and recommendations which are contained within the rule change request in developing the recommendations in the final report.
