The AEMC is due to publish a draft determination on the Generator technical performance standards rule change on 31 May 2018.

This rule change request from AEMO proposes changes to the technical performance standards for generators seeking to connect to the national electricity market, and the process for negotiating those standards.

A technical working group comprising AEMO, generators, network businesses and power systems engineers has worked with the AEMC throughout the project to systematically review each technical standard.

Building on this important collaboration, the AEMC will hold a full day technical workshop in Sydney on Tuesday 26 June 2018. The workshop is an opportunity for a broader group of technical experts from industry to provide their input on the draft rules. An agenda will be provided closer to the date.

Stakeholders who are interested in attending the workshop should contact project leader Dominic Adams by email or phone 02 8296 0616.

Submissions on the draft rules and draft determination will be due by 13 July 2018.

This rule change request relates to a recommendation made in the Finkel review for the AEMC to review and update connection standards in the National Electricity Rules. It forms part of the AEMC’s broader package of system security work which includes a range of measures to help AEMO and networks manage a transforming power system with reduced inertia and system strength.
