The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has made a final rule, which it initiated to make minor corrections and non-material changes to the National Gas Rules and Western Australian version of the National Gas Rules (WA Gas Rules) to improve their quality. As with previous AEMC initiated rules, these minor corrections and non-material changes make the rules clearer for stakeholders. 

In particular, the final rule:

• updates notes relating to civil penalty and conduct provisions in the WA Gas Rules to reflect the classification of those provisions under the National Gas Access (WA) (Part 3) Regulations 2009
• addresses minor issues relating to the implementation of the National Gas Rules (Gas Pipelines) Amendment Rules 2023, the National Gas Amendment (Harmonising the national energy rules with the updated national energy objectives) Rule 2024 and the National Gas Amendment (Other Gases) Rule 2024 in Western Australia
• corrects minor grammatical, typographical and cross-referencing errors and removes duplication in the WA Gas Rules
• makes changes to the National Gas Rules as they are applied in other participating jurisdictions (outside of Western Australia), to correct grammatical, typographical and cross-referencing errors.

Submissions to the rule change proposal closed on 2 July 2026

The Commission received no objections to using the expedited rule-making process. The Commission received one submission on the rule change request from the Western Australian Department of Energy and Economic Diversification. The AEMC has addressed the additional minor changes, raised in that submission, in the final rule determination. 

Commencement dates
