NT: Pine Gap Pipeline

The Pine Gap Pipeline (PGP) is a transmission line located 30km outside of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory,  adjacent to and outside the security fence of the Pine Gap Joint Defence Facility. It has a total length of 4.2 km an outside diameter of 114.3 mm and a capacity of 2.7 TJ/day. The pipeline was constructed in 2012 and links Pine Gap to the existing Darwin to Alice Springs Pipeline. 

The Pine Gap Service Line is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 the NGR. 

The AER has granted the following exemption applications for the Pine Gap Service Line:

  • On 29 October 2018, a five year Category 1 and Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.   The exemption expired on 28 October 2023.
  • On 12 July 2024, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.
