WA: Kwinana Supply Lateral Pipeline

The Kwinana Supply Lateral Pipeline is a distribution pipeline located in Perth, WA.

The pipeline is owned by APT Parmelia. The 1.4 km Kwinana Supply Lateral delivers gas to customers in the Kwinana industrial area south of Perth. The lateral was built in 2000 and 200mm diameter pipeline with a capacity of 3.3 TJ/day. The Kwinana Supply Lateral interconnects the Parmelia Gas Pipeline mainline. 

The Kwinana Lateral Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 8 May 2023, the ERAWA granted a five-year Category 3 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR for the Kwinana Supply Lateral.

WA: Karlawinda Gas Pipeline

The Karlawinda Gas Pipeline is a transmission pipeline located in northwest Western Australia.

The Pipeline is owned and operated by APA Operations Pty. The Karlawinda Gas Pipeline is approx. 56 km in length, 100mm in diameter and has a capacity of 10TJ/day. It transports gas from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) to the power station of the Karlawinda Gold Project.

This pipeline was commissioned in 2021.

Karlawinda Gas Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR.  On 16 July 2021, the ERAWA granted a five-year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 to the Karlawinda Gas Pipeline.

WA: HiSmelt Lateral Pipeline

The HiSmelt Lateral Pipeline is a distribution pipeline built in 2004 and owned by APA Parmelia.

The pipeline has a diameter of DN200, capacity of 4.6TJ/day and a length of 1.4km. The Hi Smelt Lateral Pipeline interconnects with the Parmelia Gas Pipeline mainline and is a single shipper pipeline.

This pipeline was built in 2003.

The HiSmelt Lateral Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 8 May 2023, the ERAWA granted a five-year Category 2 and 3 exemption under Part 23 to the HiSmelt Lateral Pipeline.

WA: Agnew Gas pipeline

The Agnew Gas Pipeline is a gas transmission pipeline in the Shire of Leonora, Western Australia. It was built in 2019 and is owned and operated by APA Operations Pty Ltd.

The Agnew Gas Pipeline is approximately 25 km long; beginning approximately 12 km south to south-east of Leinster, running west to the Agnew mine site. It has a nominal diameter of DN150 and a capacity of 4.1 TJ/day.

This pipeline was commissioned in 2019.

The Agnew Gas Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 1 July 2019, the ETAWA granted a 5 year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR for the Agnew Gas Pipeline.

NT: Wickham Point Pipeline (WPP)

The Wickham Point Pipeline (WPP), Weddell Lateral and WPP Inpex Lateral are transmission pipelines in the north-west region of the Northern Territory near Darwin. The WPP services the Darwin City Gate, Wickham and Weddell. The WPP and Weddell Lateral is owned and operated by Energy Infrastructure Investments (EII) Pipelines Pty Limited. The APA Group has a 19.9 per cent interest in EII. The other companies involved in EII are Marubini (49.9 per cent interest) and Osaka Gas (30.2 per cent interest). The WPP Inpex Lateral is owned by Power and Water Corporation NT.

The WPP is 12 km in length and has a nominal diameter of 300mm. The Southern-haul has a capacity of 100TJ/day and the Northern-haul has a capacity of 70TJ/day. It was built to deliver gas on an emergency supply basis from the LNG Plant at Wickham Point to the Amadeus Gas Pipeline and Power and Water Corporation’s Weddell Power Station near Darwin. The section of the WPP from Darwin City Gate WPP to Weddell Power Station has been in operation since early 2008, while the remainder of the pipeline between the Weddell Power Station and the Wickham Regulating Station was commissioned in May 2009.

The Weddell lateral is 2 km in length and connects the Wickham Point Pipeline to Darwin via the Darwin City Gate. The Weddell Lateral also acts as an emergency supply point for the Amadeus Gas Pipeline (AGP), with gas coming from the Bayu Undan gas fields.

The WPP Inpex Lateral runs between the exiting Wickham Point Pipeline and the new Inpex Gas Plant in Darwin.

The Wickham Point Pipeline (WPP), Weddell Lateral and WPP Inpex Lateral are currently non-scheme pipelines, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

The AER has granted the following exemptions:

  • On 3 January 2018, a five year Category 2 exemption under part 23 of the NGR for the WPP and Weddell Lateral.
  • On 30 November 2022, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR for the WPP and Weddell Lateral. The exemptions transitioned to Category 2 exemptions under Part 10 of the NGR.
  • On 9 April 2024, a five year Category 1 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR for the WPP Inpex Lateral.

WA: Yamarna Gas Pipeline

The Yamarna Gas Pipeline is a transmission pipeline currently being constructed by the APA Group. The APA Group will own and operate the transmission pipeline and an associated gas-fired power station.
 
The pipeline is expected to be 198 km in length, has a nominal diameter of DN150 and has a capacity of 7.5 TJ/day once completed. Gas will be transported almost 1,500 km to the Gruyere mine site for the Gruyere Gold Project using four APA interconnected gas pipelines: the Goldfields Gas Pipeline, the Murrin Murrin Lateral, the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline and the Yamarna Gas Pipeline. 

The Yamarna Gas Pipeline will be part of the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline System (EGPS), which includes the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline, Gwalia Lateral, Mt Morgans Lateral and Murrin Murrin Lateral.

 The pipeline is expected to be commissioned in late 2018.

WA: Wiluna Lateral

The Wiluna Lateral is a lateral transmission pipeline located in mid-west Western Australia. The lateral is owned and operated by the APA Group. 

The Wiluna Lateral is 8 km in length, 80mm in diameter and has a capacity of 8 TJ/day. It connects the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) to APA’s Wiluna gas-fired Compressor Station and Blackham Resources’ Matilda-Wiluna Gold Operation.

The Wiluna Lateral gas pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR.

The Wiluna Lateral was constructed in 2001.

WA: Telfer Gas Pipeline

The Telfer Gas Pipeline (also known as the Port Hedland to Telfer Pipeline) is a transmission pipeline in the eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia, commissioned in 2004. The pipeline is owned and operated by Energy Infrastructure Investments Gas Transmission Services WA (Operations) Pty Limited. The APA Group holds 19.9 per cent interest in Energy Infrastructure Investments, while Marubini holds 49.9 per cent interest and Osaka Gas holds 30.2 per cent interest. 

The Telfer Gas Pipeline is 443 km in length, and has a nominal diameter of 250 mm and a capacity of 29 TJ/day. The pipeline runs east from the Epic Energy Compound located at Boodarie to the Telfer Gold Mine approximately 485 km east-southeast of Port Hedland. It supplies gas for Newcrest’s Telfer Project, which includes the Telfer Gold Mine.

The Telfer Gas Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR.
