WA: Nifty Lateral Pipeline

The Nifty Pipeline (also known as the Nifty Gas Lateral) is a transmission pipeline in central Western Australia. The Nifty pipeline was commissioned in 2004. 

The pipeline is owned by Energy Infrastructure Investments (EII) Gas Transmission Services WA (Operations) Pty Ltd. The APA Group holds 19.9 per cent interest in Energy Infrastructure Investments, while Marubini holds 49.9 per cent interest and Osaka Gas holds 30.2 per cent interest.

The Nifty Pipeline is 45 km in length, has a nominal diameter of 150 mm and a capacity of 7.8TJ/day. The pipeline connects the Telfer Gas Pipeline to the Birla Nifty Copper Mine in the Great Sandy Desert and is used to supply natural gas to Metal X’s Nifty Copper Mine. 

The Nifty Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR.

WA: Murrin Murrin Lateral

The Murrin Murrin Lateral is a lateral transmission pipeline located in south Western Australia. The lateral is owned and operated by the APA Group. 

The Murrin Murrin Lateral is 84 km in length, has a nominal diameter of DN200 and has a capacity of 45.6 TJ/day. It connects the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) to the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline (EGP), which then connects to the Sunrise Dam, Tropicana and Granny Smith gold mines in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. The APA Group is also currently constructing the Yamarna Gas Pipeline, which it expects to use to link the Murrin Murrin Lateral to a new APA Group-owned Yamarna Power Station. The Murrin Murrin Lateral is part of the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline System (EGPS), which also includes the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline, Gwalia Lateral, Mt Morgans Lateral and Yamarna Gas Pipeline. 

The Murrin Murrin lateral was built in 1997.

The Murrin Murrin Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR.

WA: Mt Morgans Lateral

The Mt Morgans Lateral is a lateral transmission pipeline located in south Western Australia. The lateral is owned and operated by the APA Group. 

The Mt Morgans Lateral is 5 km in length, has a nominal diameter of DN100 and a capacity of 2.2 TJ/day. It delivers gas from the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline to the Mt Morgan Gold Mine, approximately 20 kilometres west of Laverton. The Mt Morgans Lateral is part of the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline System (EGPS), which also includes the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline, Gwalia Lateral, Murrin Murrin Lateral and Yamarna Gas Pipeline. 

The Mt Morgans lateral was built in 2017.

The Mt Morgans Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 8 May 2023, the ERAWA granted a 5 year Category 2 and 3 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR for the Mt Morgans Lateral pipeline.

WA: Mt Keith Lateral

The Mt Keith Lateral (also known as the GGP to Mt Keith Power Station Lateral) is a lateral transmission pipeline located in mid-west Western Australia. The lateral is owned and operated by the APA Group. 

The Mt Keith Lateral is 8 km in length, 200 mm in diameter and has a capacity of 15 TJ/day. It transports gas from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) to Mt Keith, where the gas is used for power generation.

The Mt Keith Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. 

The Mt Keith Lateral was initially a covered pipeline under the Gas Code. However in July 1999, the relevant minister decided to revoke coverage of the Mt Keith Lateral and the associated Leinster Lateral after an application was made to the NCC. The NCC subsequently made a recommendation that coverage should be revoked.

My Keith Lateral was commissioned in 1996.

The GGP and the Mt Keith Lateral were some of several pipeline assets across Australia which were partly owned by AGL and were transferred to the APA Group in 2000 as part of the APA Group’s initial public offering and listing.

WA: Leinster Lateral

The Leinster Lateral (also known as the GGP to Leinster Power Station Lateral) is a transmission pipeline located in mid-west Western Australia. It is owned and operated by the APA Group.

The Leinster Lateral is 5 km in length, 200mm in diameter and has a capacity of 78 TJ/day. It transports gas from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) to Leinster, where the gas is used for power generation.
 
The Leinster Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 8 May 2023, the ERAWA granted a five year Category 2 and 3 exemption under Part 23 to the Leinster Lateral.

The pipeline was initially a covered pipeline under the Gas Code. VIC: Brooklyn to Altona (Qenos) Pipeline

The Brooklyn to Altona (Qenos) Pipeline is a transmission pipeline located in central Victoria near Melbourne. The pipeline is owned and operated by the APA Group. 

The pipeline is 5 km in length, has a nominal diameter of DN250 and a capacity of 5 TJ/day. The pipeline currently transmits natural gas from the APA Group’s Brooklyn Compressor Station to the Qenos Olefins chemical plant in Altona. This pipeline is connected to the Victorian Transmission System (VTS)

The Qenos Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the NGR. National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

On 13 December 2017, the AER granted a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. On 30 November 2022, the AER granted a further five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. Due to reforms to the NGR, the exemption transitioned to a Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.

The Brooklyn to Altona Pipeline was initially commissioned in 1976. In October 2014, the previously ethane supplying pipeline was refitted to supply natural gas.

NT: Mt Todd Lateral

This pipeline is suspended and not currently operating.

The Mt Todd Lateral (also known as the Mt Todd Pipeline) is a lateral transmission pipeline in the central region of the Northern Territory. The pipeline is owned and operated by APT Pipelines, a subsidiary of the APA Group. 
   
The Mt Todd Lateral supplied gas from the Amadeus Gas Pipeline to fuel the power station at the Mt Todd mine. The Mt Todd mine closed in 2006-2007, and no gas deliveries have occurred since that time. However, Vista has completed a feasibility study for a Mt Todd mining project and have expressed interest in using the pipeline to supply natural gas for the project.

The Mt Todd Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Mt Todd Lateral:

  • On 13 December 2017, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.
  • On 30 November 2022, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. Due to reforms to the NGR, the exemption transitioned to a Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.

The Mt Todd Lateral was commissioned in October 1996.

NT: Mataranka Lateral

This pipeline is suspended and not currently operating.

The Mataranka Lateral is a lateral transmission pipeline in the central region of the Northern Territory. The pipeline is owned and operated by APT Pipelines, a subsidiary of the APA Group.

The Mataranka Lateral is 11 km in length. The Mataranka Lateral connects customers in the Mataranka region to the Amadeus Gas Pipeline. 

The Mataranka Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Mataranka Lateral:

  • On 13 December 2017, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.
  • On 30 November 2022, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. Due to reforms to the NGR, the exemption transitioned to a Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.

The Mataranka Lateral was completed in 1997. It was previously owned by the Amadeus Gas Trust, which was owned by AGL (96 per cent interest), the Northern Territory Government (2.5 per cent interest) and a corporation representing certain Aboriginal interests (1.5 per cent).

NT: Elliot Lateral

The Elliot Lateral is a lateral transmission pipeline in the central region of the Northern Territory. The pipeline is owned by APT Pipelines, a subsidiary of the APA Group.

The Elliot Lateral is 4 km long, has a nominal diameter of 50mm and has a daily capacity of 0.4TJ. It connects to the Amadeus Gas Pipeline and fuels the Elliot power station at the Elliot township.

The Elliot Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Elliot Lateral:

  • On 13 December 2017, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.

NT: Darwin Distribution System

The Darwin Distribution System is a distribution network in the Northern Territory. The network is owned and operated by N.T. Gas Distribution, a subsidiary of the APA Group.

The Darwin Distribution System is 19 km in network length and has a capacity of 2.78 TJ/day. It serves the Darwin area.

The Darwin Distribution System is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.

The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Darwin Distribution System:

  • On 13 December 2017, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.
  • On 30 November 2022, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. Due to reforms to the NGR, the exemption transitioned to a Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.

The DCGBP was initially subject to regulation as a covered pipeline under the Gas Code by the ACCC. However, no access arrangement was lodged with or approved by the ACCC. In May 2003, following a recommendation from the NCC, the relevant minister decided to revoke coverage of the DCGBP. At the time that coverage was revoked only small volumes of gas were being transported by the DCGBP.

The Darwin Distribution System was completed in 1996.
