NSW: Kurri Kurri Lateral Pipeline

The Kurri Kurri Lateral Pipeline (KKLP) is a gas transmission and storage pipeline that will connect the Hunter Power Project in Kurri Kurri, to the Sydney to Newcastle pipeline, near Newcastle, in New South Wales.

The KKLP Project comprises the following main components:

  • A 21 km buried steel DN350 (approximately 14-inch), medium pressure (up to 6.9-megapascal) transmission pipeline to provide a gas supply from the existing Sydney to Newcastle pipeline to the Hunter Power Project.
  • A compressor station at the end of the transmission pipeline to boost gas pressure to the required inlet pressure of the Hunter Power Project.
  • A 24 km buried steel DN1050 (approximately 42-inch), high-pressure storage (up to 15.3-megapascal) pipeline downstream of the compressor station to hold up to 70 TJ of gas ready to supply the Hunter Power Project at the required inlet pressure.

The KKLP Project is located within the Cessnock City Council, Maitland City Council and Newcastle City Council local government areas, with the closest communities including Kurri Kurri, Heddon Greta, Cliftleigh and Gillieston Heights. It is expected to be completed in 2025.

QLD: Allgas gas distribution network

The Allgas gas distribution network previously known as the APT Allgas distribution system) is owned by Allgas Energy Pty Ltd (Allgas Energy) and operated by the APA Group. Allgas Energy is owned by GDI (EII) Pty Ltd which is a joint venture between Marubeni Corporation (40% interest), SAS Trustee Corporation (40% interest)) and the APA Group (20% interest).

The previous owner and service provider of the Allgas gas distribution system was APT Allgas Energy Pty Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of the APA Group). In December 2011, APA sold the distribution system to the GDI (EII) joint venture.

The Allgas gas distribution network covers part of the Brisbane area (south of the Brisbane River) and the Gold Coast (extending into northern NSW). It also covers the inland city of Toowoomba and the town of Oakey. The distribution system consists of approximately 3,200 km of pipeline delivering gas to around 100,000 customers.

The Allgas gas distribution network was initially subject to regulation as a covered pipeline under the Gas Code by the QCA. It was then subject to full regulation by the AER under the NGR.

The Allgas gas distribution network was initially commissioned in approximately 1870.

In April 2015, the NCC made a decision on the form of regulation for the Allgas gas distribution network. The Allgas gas distribution network is now subject to light regulation by the AER under the NGR. The AER no longer approves an access arrangement for the Allgas gas distribution network.
