To all those interested in the future design for the NEM.

The Energy Security Board released the Post-2025 Market Design Consultation Paper last week.

There is no doubt that that developing a roadmap for the transformation of how we generate, transmit, distribute and use energy is needed. This consultation paper covering seven market design initiatives is testament to that. These are complex and technical issues that require analysis and at the end of the day need to hang together in a coherent NEM market design.

The changes require bold thinking, collaboration and acknowledgment that no one person holds the answers. And that’s what we are seeking through consultation on this 7 September paper. We are asking everyone across the sector to contribute your ideas in coming up with the right solutions.

Just as the power system is greater than the individual components, so too are the collective contributions of those who have an interest in getting things right.

We welcome feedback towards delivering the results of this consultation and recommendations to energy ministers next year, and as part of this, I invite you to this session on Wednesday 30 September 10-11am (or the session on Thursday 1 October 10-11am) where myself and David Swift (Deputy Chair, Energy Security Board) will talk through the thinking we have shared for consultation and welcome your feedback and questions.

Kerry Schott AO
