Legislation
The AEMC performs its roles under a series of statutes and regulations. A list of some of the key laws is set out below.
Statutes
- Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Act 2004 (South Australia)
- National Electricity (South Australia) Act 1996.
The main source of statutory powers for the AEMC comes from the National Electricity Law (NEL). The NEL is contained in a Schedule to the National Electricity (South Australia) Act 1996. The NEL is applied as law in each participating jurisdiction of the NEM by application statutes, for example the National Electricity (Victoria) Act 2005.
Regulations
- Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Regulations 2005 (South Australia)
- National Electricity (South Australia) Regulations
Copies of the above legislation can be found at the South Australian Legislation website.
