The AEMC performs its roles under a series of statutes and regulations. A list of some of the key laws concerning its gas market related functions is set out below.
Statutes
- Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Act 2004 (South Australia)
A main source of statutory powers for the AEMC comes from the National Gas Law (NGL). The NGL is contained in a Schedule to the National Gas (South Australia) Act 2008. An application statute for each participating jurisdiction governs the extent to which the national gas legislation applies in the relevant jurisdiction.
Regulations
- Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Regulations 2005 (South Australia)
- National Gas (South Australia) Regulations
Copies of the above legislation can be found at the South Australian Legislation website.
