National Gas Rules
The National Gas Rules govern access to natural gas pipeline services and elements of broader natural gas markets. They include Rules concerning the Natural Gas Service Bulletin Board operated by VENCorp.
The Rules have the force of law and are made under the National Gas Law. South Australia is the lead legislator for the national gas legislation and the new National Gas Law, the Regulations and the National Gas Rules will be applied in all Australian jurisdictions by application Acts. Application Acts govern the extent to which the national gas legislation applies in the relevant jurisdiction.
Copies of the initial National Gas Rules 2008 are available for inspection at the AEMC's office in Sydney. The National Gas Law, made under the National Gas (South Australia) Act 2008, can be found at the South Australian Legislation website.
The initial National Gas Rules 2008 were made by the Minister for Energy in South Australia and commenced operation on 1 July 2008. With the exception of Western Australia, the initial National Gas Rules 2008 commenced operation in each jurisdiction on 1 July 2008.
